Lotsa topics

The trees in our yard burst into bloom during the week. They greeted me in a cheery way despite the bit 'o rain and wind I had to drive through on the way home.

Amy should be on her way on the train! I checked Amtrak - it's supposed to be on time. I will keep watch throughout th evening. After Amy's Turkey trip, I'm sure this method of travel will not seem bad to her.

I piled the fruit on this week in my yummy breakfasts in cubicle-land. Unfortunately, several other people have caught on to my early-to-work idea. A group near me in the Contaminated Sites section gathers and chatters about all sorts of topics. Loudly. Interupting my morning meditation and breakfast routine. I've had to break out the iPod! And now between walking and listening to tunes at work, I need some new music on my iPod.

Friday bits

Jim, Susi, Leslie and Jordan Alvillar

Just back from my post-work walk. Ah - so good! It must be about 50 degrees but no wind. Took the route through my favorite cemetery - Calvary, near our home. Such a spiritual place for me - even on a power walk. I see Carol Glynn's new resting place - RIP lovely lady.

So many people claim Autumn as their favorite season. Not I. I love spring - green buds, grass and flowers just waiting to burst forth. Bugs haven't awakened yet. Oh the possibilities!

Got a long newsy email from sister Susi. Dad used to say "Sioux See" with soft S's. Just to warp her name like he did all of our names "Forsythia" Loose Leaf" Betso Bean" Her name was originally spelled Susie - at some point she dropped the name in a fit of originality, or to set herself apart from all the other Susans in the Class of 1969. I'll have to ask her sometime.

Anyway, all is good with the Alvillars - much quieter year in 2011 after 3 big events in 2010 - Leslie's wedding, David's wedding and Jordan's graduation from college. They lost their sweet doggie Lucy recently and the house is quiet. Jordan is now living in Denver near our very own Amy - so we should get to see them Memorial Day. Yay!

Lovin' being warm

I wrote this last Friday but forgot to hit post, so it sat as a draft until Monday when it was cold again...
It's been unseasonably warm this past week - and I've loved it! It's been so great not being cold. Being cold makes me tired. It's actually wearing on one's body and mental state to be chilly day after day. And looking at the cold white stuff - driving in it, walking in it, making sure not to fall down in it. It makes me weary.

So this past few days has been a welcome respite. And I really can't complain after last year, the hellish winter that we had. It started early, snowed often and ended late. It went on and on. Brutal is the term that comes to mind. You may recall the photo I posted of my poor car covered in a half inch of ice. Yikes - I hope that's not still in store for this winter.

So we've dabbled in a bit 'o Indian Spring. Now I hate to go back to the cold stuff. Today we went to 50ish and sunny to a thunderstorm. It's now in the 40's. Headed back into the 30's this week. Hope the white stuff stays away!
